45 percent Malaysians want Anwar as PM

PUCHONG: A public opinion survey by PKR linked Selangor think tank, Institute Darul Ehsan have found that 45 per cent of Malaysians want PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the eighth prime minister once Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad steps down.
Anwar came out the tops in a survey involving 1,597 respondents nationwide.
If the survey is anything to go by current Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also Bersatu president can be the deputy prime minister as he was ranked second, after Anwar with 16 percent support from the respondents.
Muhyiddin is a former deputy prime minister in the former BN administration under Najib.
In response to another question regarding Tun Dr Mahathir’s term in office upto 75 per cent felt that the Prime Minister should not stay in office beyond two years.
Of that 75 percent, 44 percent said he should relinquish his position within six months from now, 36 percent said he should not stay on for more than two years, while 20 percent wanted him to step down immediately.
Meanwhile, only 22 percent of respondents said there was no need at all for Mahathir to step down as prime minister.
