3 Malaysian, 8 Sri Lankan human smugglers detained

KUALA LUMPUR: Three Malaysians and eight Sri Lankan migrants have been detained for their involvement in a human smuggling syndicate, said Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.
The Malaysians were detained under the Special Offences (Security Measures) Act 2012 whereas the Sri Lankans were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/1963 on 27 May.
The syndicate which used fake Malaysian documents smuggled Sri Lankan migrants to Europe when they were apprehended. Malaysia served as a transit point for the syndicate.
The arrests of the 11 was carried out at the Customs, Immigration Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Padang Besar and Klang Valley
