2020 Census: Strategic cooperation between EC, DOSM
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Election Commission (EC) is embarking on a strategic cooperation with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in carrying out the Malaysian Population and Housing Census 2020 (Census 2020) to begin on July 7.
EC chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, in a statement today, said the 2020 Census would go through a modernisation process involving the development of the ‘Malaysian Statistical Address Register’ (MSAR) under the Integrated Census Population System (MyIPCS) by the Department of Statistics.
“It is seen as of great benefit to the country and opens up opportunities and rooms for continuous improvement in our service delivery system for the people in the future,” he said.
He said the cooperation was mooted following a visit and discussion with Malaysian Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin last Thursday.
Azharvsaid the EC was pleased to work with the Department of Statistics in conducting the census, which is an important and significant activity to give an accurate picture of Malaysia’s current population situation.
It would also be an important source of reference for planning of the country’s development, he added.
