2 Kedah reps quit PKR: Mukhriz upending the end-game?
KUALA LUMPUR: Mukhriz Mahathir in Kedah is in the brink of chaos, with at least two Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen announced that they no longer support the menteri besar.
The implication of this is clear as two PKR assemblymen in Kedah today announced their exit from the party, a big blow to Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir who had remained in power with the support from 17 of the 36 representatives in the state assembly.
This could result in a period of painful upheaval and chaos for Mukhriz as both men are known to be aligned with Mohamed Azmin Ali, who alongside about a dozen PKR MPs defected from the party in February, collapsing PH’s 22 months in federal power.
Sidam assemblyman Robert Ling Kui Ee and Lunas assemblyman Azman Nasarudin announced their decision at a press conference today.
Following this, PAS which has 15 seats, backed by Umno’s two seats, is likely to command the majority support to form the state government.
Ling and Azman said they had no confidence in the leadership of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, and would now stand as independents.
However, they added that they would maintain friendly ties with Perikatan Nasional.
