17 compounded for violating MCO

LANGKAWI: Police issued compounds of RM1,000 each to 17 individuals for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Movement Control Order (MCO) by holding a birthday celebration at a villa, in Ulu Melaka, here, early today.

Langkawi district police chief, ACP Shariman Ashari said a team that carried out patrol in the area to ensure the SOP compliance had noticed the presence of a large number of vehicles and noise from the villa, at 1 am.

“Upon inspection, we found 13 local men and four women aged between 18 and 32 in the villa.

“The group who live around the island has rented the villa to hold a birthday party for one of their friends. However, during the inspection, the birthday boy was not at the scene because he had returned to his house for a while,” he said in a statement, tonight.

Shariman said all those arrested were taken to the Kuah Police Station for documentation and was issued compounds before being released.

“All of them tested negative for drugs,” he said.
