Singapore man admits assaulting wife over condo sale proceeds, leaving her with fractured ribs

SINGAPORE, Sept 25 — A 39-year-old man pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt to his wife after a dispute over how to use proceeds from their condominium sale, leaving her with fractures to her ribs, clavicle and facial bones, CNA reported.

The court heard that Au Yong Khin Mun struck his wife multiple times during a meal at the Singapore University of Technology and Design canteen in December 2024.

When initial slaps missed, he hit her with a cup, plate, his hands, and even kneed her, before forcibly throwing her to the ground.

The couple, married for about five years, have three young children, including four-year-old twins. The dispute arose when Au Yong proposed using condo profits to settle his credit card debts, while his wife wanted to buy a Housing Board flat for the family.

Medical reports indicated the victim would require six to 12 months for recovery and rehabilitation.

CCTV footage captured the assault.

Prosecutors are seeking 24 to 26 months’ imprisonment and six strokes of the cane, citing the repeated and escalating nature of the attacks.

Defence counsel noted ongoing divorce proceedings.

Sentencing has been adjourned to November.
