Kiandee will be replaced in PAC, says Dr M

BANTING: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has given his assurance that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Ronald Kiandee will be replaced once the replacement have been identified.

“This is not a legal matter, it is a promise made by Pakatan Harapan. We can do it anytime, we will stick to our promise. He remains the chairman until we find a successor.”

“It is not necessary the moment something happens you drop everything,” he said after launching the Sayangi SawitKu campaign at the Sime Darby Ladang East palm oil plantation this morning

The assurance came amidst calls from three deputy ministers Steven Sim, Hannah Yeoh Chong Chieng Jen – who called upon Kiandee to step down.  Earlier on Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar quit PAC as Kiandee maintained his chairman position.

Kiandee had taken up the post as a Umno MP. He along with a group of Sabah Umno lawmakers subsequently quit Umno and turned independent.

Earlier this month, they joined Bersatu – the party that Dr Mahathir chairs. Kiandee continued to hold the PAC chair post with the green light from Dr Mahathir.

The PAC deputy chair is Wong Kah Woh (Ipoh Timor-PH).

Other backbenchers in the PAC include Wong Shu Qi (Kluang-PH), Wong Chen (Subang-PH), Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo-PH), Muslimin Yahaya (Sungai Besar – PH), Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (Hulu Langat-PH), Wong Hon Wai (Bukit Bendera-PH) and Steven Choong (Tebrau-PH).

The opposition MPs are Noraini Ahmad (Parit Sulong-Umno), Ahmad Hamzah (Jasin-Umno) Takiyuddin Hassan (Kota Bharu-PAS).

PH in its manifesto promised an opposition led PAC.
