Najib’s 1MDB trial postponed to next Monday

KUALA LUMPUR: The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial involving 25 charges against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been postponed to next week.
The postponement was announced by Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah. In addition to that he also set case management to be heard this Thursday on both legal teams’ preparedness to begin the trial.
Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Sri Gopal Sri Ram argued that among others the defence’s statutory right to have at least 14 days to study witness statements. The defence only had the weekend.
In this trial Najib is facing a total of 25 charges.
Four charges are for abusing his position to obtain RM2.28 billion from 1MDB.
The remaining 21 charges are for money laundering via receiving, spending and returning the RM2.08 billion donation (as it was valued at the time) from Tanore Finance Corporation.
