Lorry plunges into river, driver feared drowned
BUTTERWORTH: A man is feared drowned after the lorry he was driving plunged into Sungai Perai here, yesterday.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Shafee Abd Samad identified the lorry driver as K.Palaniappan, 66.
He said the police were informed of the crash at 7.10 pm, following which a search and rescue (SAR) operation was conducted for the victim.
As at press time, the victim had yet to be found, he said when contacted today.
He said based on a CCTV footage in the area, the driver had parked the 10-tonne tipper lorry there and then returned.
The victim had just boarded the lorry when it moved and plunged into the river, he said, adding that the SAR team had found the lorry, but its driver was missing.
The search for the victim continues.
