Police give assurance on UiTM off campus students’ safety
SHAH ALAM: The police today gave an assurance on the safety of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) off-campus students staying in Section 7 following the closure of a community police station in the area last month.
Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said police patrolling duties in the area were being done by policemen from nearby stations under the Shah Alam district police headquarters.
“The Section 7 community police station was closed on Feb 15 to enable a more efficient utilisation of police personnel.
“If it is not closed, the station would have required six policemen to handle the duties there and several more to do security patrol,” he said after a casual programme of the UiTM vice chancellor and the Selangor Police with UiTM non-resident students and the Section 7 Shah Alam community here today.
Also present was UiTM vice-chancellor Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim and Shah Alam district police chief, ACP Baharudin Mat Taib.
According to Arjunaidi, crime cases involving UiTM students were not serious as most of them were related to motorcycle thefts and house break-ins.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azraai said the university had always looked after the off-campus students’ welfare and it even has a special department to assist them.
To date, about 14,000 or 50 per cent of the UiTM Shah Alam campus students live off campus.
