TLO vox pop: Public fed up with politics, adopting ‘wait and see’

PUCHONG: The political turmoil and the subsequent formation of a new government, helmed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his new Cabinet line-up announced yesterday finally brought some level of relief to the nation.

However, many seem to be frustrated and angry with the recent political storm, to the extent that they have become disenchanted with the saga.

When The Leaders Online team had a walkabout to ask people on what they aspire from the new government, many just refused to speak.

“I don’t care about what happens. None of my business,” said almost ten people interviewed today.

However, one guy, Mohd Hilmi Spawy, 27, spoke highly of the newly minted Finance Minister Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

“With our economy going south, I think Zafrul will be the right man to salvage the situation,” he said.

Hilmi works is an employee of CIMB, serving as a personal financial adviser.

Speaking highly of Zafrul, who is a former CIMB Group CEO, Hilmi said that the corporate figure did a good job in managing the banking group during his tenure.

“My CEO had done a good job when he was in CIMB. So, I feel he is the right person to handle the economy now.

“Other than that, I don’t really want to judge. Let’s wait and see what will the new government will do for us,” he added.

Another interviewee, Mohamad Iskandar Razman, 22, also shared Hilmi’s views, saying it was too early to assess the new government.

However, the mobile phone promoter said that he was upset when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad quit abruptly, causing instability to the government.

“Let’s wait and see because it is too early to judge them,” said Iskandar.
