Latheefa Koya quits MACC

PUCHONG: MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya has resigned from her post.

In a statement, Latheefa said that she tendered her resignation to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on March 2 and made it clear that it was a decision made voluntarily.

“Speculation that I was pressured is baseless. I had meeting with Muhyiddin yesterday and it was cordial. He understood my position well.

‘’I have also briefed him on the on-going investigations in regards to the 1MBD scandal and our efforts to retrieve the monies. Muhyiddin was very supportive of it.

“And I also took the opportunity to wish him the best and urged him to look into the best interest of the people,” she said.

Latheefa’s resignation is the second high-profile departure following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan federal government.

Two weeks ago, Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas also hanged his boots. He said that it was improper for him to remain at the post after the man that who gave him the job, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad left office.

Latheefa said that she was planning to return to her practise, as a human rights advocate after leaving MACC.

She also said that she had briefed all her department heads in regards to the decision, including her deputy Datuk Seri Azam Baki, to ensure a smooth handover process.

“I’m leaving with full confidence that MACC will be relentless in its fight against corruption, irrespective of the perpetrator’s influence or political allegiance.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mahathir, my colleagues in MACC and all Malaysians for supporting me during my tenure as MACC chief,” said Latheefa.
