Speaker: Dewan Rakyat sitting pushed to May 18
PUCHONG: The Dewan Rakyat sitting, initially scheduled for March 9, has been postponed to May 18.
Speaking to Malay daily, Berita Harian, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said that he had received a letter from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last night in regards to the postponement.
“I received the letter last night. There will be no sitting on March 9. The new date for Dewan Rakyat’s opening ceremony has been moved to May 18.
“We will issue a statement later today,” he said.
The next sitting, originally scheduled from March 9 to April 16, was supposed to be graced by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah.
After the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government last week, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir had announced that he may move a no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin to prove that the former commands the majority in the House.
The move by Muhyiddin is speculated to give him time to stabilise his position as the new premier and appoint a new Cabinet line-up.
