GPS supports Dr M as PM, denies claims it teamed up with Umno-PAS

PUCHONG:  Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) today announced that it supports Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue helming the nation as prime minister.

In a statement today, GPS secretary general Datuk Alexander Nanta Tinggi said that their chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Open, had already informed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, of their stand on the matter.

“In fact, Johari had also informed Mahathir of our stand on Feb 23,” he said.

Yesterday, Mahathir quit as prime minister after Pakatan Harapan embroiled in power struggle which saw Bersatu leaving the coalition, together with 11 other MPs.

However, Mahathir has returned to the premiership on an interim basis until a new government is formed.

On related matter, Johari dismissed speculation that GPS has formed a pact with Umno and PAS to form the new federal government.

“It was only a speculation by Parti Sarawak Bersatu. The chief minister did not finalise any agreement with any quarters in the Peninsula,” the chief minister’s office said via a statement.
