Breaking: Bomb blasts continue to haunt Sri Lanka
Colombo: According to The Leaders Online Foreign Correspondent Ashraff A Samad, an improvised explosive device was detected inside a van near the St. Anthony’s Church, Jampettah Road, Kochchikade, and was disposed of in controlled explosion at the site by the Bomb Disposal Unit a short while ago.
The van is reportedly on fire. It is feared that there are three more bombs to be detonated by the bomb squad at different locations.
According to Ashraff, police today informed Colombo Chef Magistrate’s Court that the suicide bomber of the Shangri-La hotel had been identified as Insan Seelavan and owned a factory in Avissawella- Wellampitiya road.
Nine employees of the said factory were arrested by the Wellampitiya Police and were remanded till May 6 after being produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The Police also informed the court that the suicide bomber was suspected to have links with other suicide killers died in the Dematagoda blast.
Our source also informed that there are possibilities of foreign terror groups to be involved in the bombings.
The latest development revealed that the government has decided to gazette the sections dealing with the prevention of terrorism under emergency regulations from midnight today.
The decision was taken at the National Security Council to empower the security forces so as to ensure public security.
There were nine blasts in all, including at churches in Negombo and Kochchikade in the country’s west, and Batticaloa in the east. Three luxury hotels in the capital Colombo were also targeted leading to the death of foreigners as well.
