Funky Shankar criminal intimidation trial set for May 4
PUCHONG: The Perlis court is scheduled to hear the criminal intimidation case levelled against former radio jockey, Sri Shankar Ganesh, popularly known as Funky Shankar on May 4.
In May last year, Shankar was detained by the police after he was reported to have threatened to assault Perlis One Centre Malaysia chief executive officer Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu.
Zamri lodged a police report against Shankar after he saw a post on Facebook under the name ‘Funkyshankar’, who had uploaded a video recording of him allegedly threatening the former.
In the footage, Shankar was said to have requested for Zamri’s address so that he could assault him.
Zamri is a controversial Islamic preacher who had been at odds with non-Muslims for his condescending views of other faiths.
On related matter, Shankar urged those who support for his cause to attend the trial in order to show solidarity with him.
“This fight is a win for everyone. Zamri had insulted Hinduism and Christianity. We can be of any religion but that does not give us the right to disrespect another’s faith.
“I also call upon the media fraternity to highlight this matter and stop the likes of Zamri from insulting other religion,” he said.
