Kelantan Perhilitan installs trap in Felda Perasu to catch bears
GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has set up a trap to catch a group of bears which allegedly had been disrupting peace at the Felda Perasu settlement.
Kelantan Perhilitan director Ady Armanty Haniff Mohamed Hanif said the trap was installed by Perhilitan Gua Musang staff at 6.15pm yesterday after complaints from residents.
“They took about 30 minutes to install the trap at the oil palm plantation which is where the bears are believed to roam around,” he told the media here, yesterday.
He also advised the settlers to clear the surrounding area as well as the plantation to prevent the bears from turning it into a den.
Settlers were also advised not to throw food leftovers outside their homes that could lure the bears.
“Other than that, settlers rearing honeybees should build a solid fence around their homes to keep the bears away,” he said. — Bernama
