MWF takes stern anti-doping measures for SUKMA Games
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) has taken a stern measure not to allow any athlete including the state found to be involved in doping issues from participating in the 2020 Malaysian Games (SUKMA).
MWF vice-president Amirul Hamizan Ibrahim said this was decided at the federation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Dec 20, to ensure the sport was free of the doping problems.
“Indeed, this step is very harsh, but we have to take it so that athletes and state associations are more careful in terms of the supplements they (athletes) consume.
“We don’t want any more doping problems. Although it may seem harsh, this is a positive step to prevent the issue from recurring. We have already informed this to the state associations and they have agreed,” he said after attending the 30th SEA Games post-mortem meeting at the National Sports Council (NSC) yesterday.
Amirul Hamizan also stressed that MWF would not compromise and would not allow any state to participate in any category of weight lifting event even if one of their athletes was positive on dope.
To ensure that this goal was achieved, MWF would be conducting a doping test at least two months before the SUKMA Games, which is scheduled to be held in July.
