Najib: What happened to the free breakfast programme?

PUCHONG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak questioned the Pakatan Harapan government on what happened to the free breakfast programme promised to schoolchildren.

In a Facebook post today, the Pekan MP said the Cabinet had approved the programme and the budget for its implementation was announced by the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself.

“However, the programme was only implemented at 100 schools this year. Even then, it was funded by the private sector.

“Apparently, the Finance Ministry did not allocate the RM1.67 billion needed to implement the programme all over the country,” he said.

Last year, the Education Ministry approved the Free Breakfast Programme to provide supplementary food for school students from the less privileged background.

Najib said,”The government once again lied to the people. This is like how they promised to provide free education during the 14th General Election two years ago.
