PAS: Only a Malay-Muslim should helm the Education portfolio
KUALA LUMPUR: Only a Malay-Muslim should be appointed as the Education Minister, said a PAS MP.
In a statement, Kuala Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim also alleged that Maszlee Malik may have been forced out from the Education Ministry in an attempt to weaken efforts to strengthen the national education system.
“Only a Malay-Muslim can become the education minister. We need someone with better qualities and possessing the zeal to bolster Malaysia’s education system, in tandem with our nation’s stature as a sovereign Islamic nation.

“Although I may have disagreed with Maszlee on several issue, we cannot deny his efforts in trying to improve our national education system. I hope his decision to quit was not spurred by certain quarters who are trying to undermine his work,” he said.
Yesterday, Maszlee announced his resignation as Education Minister, acting on the advise given by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
During his exit speech, Maszlee also took potshots at the press for painting him in bad light and blamed excessive politicking for his abrupt decision.
