Maszlee to resign as education minister
PUTRAJAYA: Maszlee Malik is expected to announce his resignation from Cabinet later today, sources close to the education minister told The Leaders Online.
Maszlee submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad earlier this afternoon.
Maszlee gave his resignation letter today and PM has accepted it. currently meeting his staff and will announce his decision in a press conference around 4.30pm.
Prior to this Maszlee was tangled by criticism from Malaysians.
An online petition demanding education minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s resignation gained steam, after reports that he drew links between the matriculation quota system and unfair job private sector opportunities for bumiputras.
And it seems the people know who they want as their education minister instead. A separate petition calling for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to take the reins has also been given fresh support, after Maszlee’s controversial comments were reported by local media.
The petition ‘Tun, please replace Minister of Education, Dr Maszlee Malik’, on Change.org collected 159,729 signatures so far.
