Aireen Omar joins Tune Protect’s board as Tony Fernandes exits
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has stepped down as Tune Protect Group Bhd’s non-executive director due to the reorganisation of the AirAsia Group leadership team while Aireen Omar has been named non-executive director.
Fernandes, who is a major shareholder of the company as well as AirAsia Group chief executive officer, became the digital insurance company’s non-executive director on July 1 after Datuk Kamarudin Meranun decided not to seek a re-appointment as a director on the expiry of his regulatory tenure on June 30 with Bank Negara.
In filings with Bursa Malaysia, Tune Protect said Fernandes’ resignation was effective today while Aireen’s appointment would take effect on Nov 14.
Aireen is currently president of the AirAsia Group (RedBeat Ventures). She is an economics graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and holds a Masters in Economics from New York University.
