JPJ: Two commercial drivers test positive for methamphetamine at Duta Toll Plaza, 62 notices issued in two‑day operation
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Two commercial vehicle drivers tested positive for methamphetamine in an integrated drug operation at the Duta Toll Plaza here on September 22 and 23.
Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hamidi Adam said the two individuals tested positive following 48 urine tests conducted in collaboration with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
He said the individuals were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further tests and investigation.
“If the individuals are confirmed as drug addicts through the stipulated legal process, JPJ will take action under Section 36 of the Road Transport Act 1987, including suspending their driving licences,” he said in a statement today.
Commenting on the two-day operation, Hamidi said 275 commercial vehicles were inspected, with 62 notices issued for various offences, including not having a Goods Driving Licence (GDL) and tinted windows.
Meanwhile, Hamidi said 25 out of 341 drivers inspected during the integrated drug operations up to September this year had failed their initial urine tests.
He said they comprised 23 goods vehicle drivers, one tour vehicle driver and one public service vehicle driver.
He warned that JPJ would not compromise with anyone driving under the influence of banned substances, as it could endanger the lives of other road users.
“At the same time, transport companies and operators are reminded not to take driver monitoring and vehicle maintenance lightly,” he said.
Hamidi stressed that ensuring road safety was not solely the responsibility of drivers but also involved those managing the vehicles.
