Fahmi: State‑specific political shifts may lead to Pakatan realignments, cooperation with Bersatu not discussed
KUALA PILAH, Sept 20 — The current political dynamics could lead to various political realignments, taking into account the unique political landscape of each state.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said recent political developments could not be viewed through a single mould, as each state had its own unique political landscape and dynamics.
“We know that each state has its own political uniqueness. So, it is not impossible that such dynamics could also emerge within Pakatan Harapan (PH),” he told reporters here today.
He said this after officiating the Kampung Angkat Madani (Madani Adopted Village) 2025 initiative of the Communications Ministry at Surau Kampung Tebat Kering, Kuala Pilah, here.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Kuala Pilah District Council president Nawal Mohamed Amin, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Mohd Shukri Ishak, and the ministry’s agencies’ top management.
Commenting on the possibility of cooperation between PH and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Fahmi said there had been no discussions towards such a move so far.
Yesterday, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would not contest the 16th General Election (GE16) on its own, but as part of a political coalition.
In a separate development, the Communications Minister said the decision to grant a conditional pardon to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was subject to Article 42 of the Federal Constitution and fell within the powers of the King.
“On the government’s side, PH itself issued a statement last week. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, who is responsible for representing the government on the Pardons Board, have also issued statements.
“The decision to grant a conditional pardon was made by His Majesty,” he said.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Friday granted a conditional pardon to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to him paying a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara on Friday.
