Stop shifting goalposts on Tabung Haji RCI, PKR Youth tells Akmal
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — PKR Youth information chief Danish Hairudin has accused Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh of shifting his stance on the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) because its findings and resulting arrests failed to match his political narrative.
Danish said Akmal, previously among the most vocal figures demanding the report’s release, was now attempting to “move the goalposts”.
“Must everyone follow Akmal and Umno’s lead until we get the answer that Umno wants?” Danish asked, noting the inquiry was not formed under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.
Danish argued that if Umno, which sits in the unity government, sees shortcomings in the report, it should raise and debate them in Parliament.
He added that any fresh evidence should be investigated “regardless of who is involved,” insisting no one should be shielded.
He also urged Umno and Akmal not to ignore uncomfortable findings in the report, such as “creative accounting”, severe governance lapses, and investment losses of up to 100 per cent.
“Reveal everything. Debate everything,” Danish said, warning against repeating playbooks from the 1MDB scandal where core issues were “obscured and whitewashed.”
He also said that Tabung Haji belongs to millions of depositors, not political parties.
“If you truly want the truth, accept the truth in its entirety. Do not keep searching for an RCI until you find the answer you like.”
Earlier, Akmal made a social media post defending calls for a fresh RCI into TH’s asset transfer to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) under the first Pakatan Harapan administration.
Akmal was responding to PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who questioned the need for another inquiry, while also citing Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim’s stance: “If we want to reveal it, we reveal everything, not just partially.”
