Home minister orders immediate probe into deaths of three cops in Beaufort electric shock tragedy

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 7 — A comprehensive and transparent investigation has been ordered immediately to determine the actual cause of the electric shock tragedy that claimed the lives of three Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in Beaufort yesterday.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that any weaknesses identified must be addressed immediately, while improvements must also be implemented to ensure that a similar incident does not recur.

He also expessed his condolences to the families of Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee and Corporal Chiu Teck Siong.

“May Allah SWT grant their families and friends the strength to face this ordeal and facilitate all their affairs,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook today.

Saifuddin Nasution said the three personnel had devoted themselves to serving the religion, people and country, and described their passing as a great loss to the Home Ministry (KDN).

In the incident at about 5.50pm yesterday, the three personnel were confirmed dead after they were believed to have suffered electric shocks while moving a 29-foot-long metal pole used to harvest coconuts outside the Weston Police Station near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Weston.
