Ahmad Maslan says modular system will ensure Cakna Madani classrooms completed before 2027 school term
ALOR GAJAH, Aug 6 — The construction of additional classrooms using the Modular Precast System (MPS) under the Program Cakna Madani initiative is expected to be fully completed by December this year, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
He said the use of the modular construction system enables projects to be completed more quickly according to schedule, ensuring that the facilities will be ready for use for the 2027 Year One school session.
“In general, to answer the question on the construction progress, there are a certain number of projects nationwide. Because we are using the MPS modular system, everything is progressing according to schedule.
“Before the end of the year, the schools requiring these additional classrooms will be completed,” he told reporters after a working visit to inspect Federal development projects at the Public Works Department (JKR) Alor Gajah District Engineer’s Office here today.
Ahmad said the idea of using the Modular Precast System (MPS) was proposed by him to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year as the technology had proven capable of speeding up construction without compromising quality.
He said the system was inspired by China’s modular construction method, which is capable of completing a 10-storey building in just 28 hours and 45 minutes.
“The cost is lower, construction is faster, while the quality remains the same. Its durability also extends for decades. At present, we are only using it for additional buildings, but in principle it can also be applied to permanent buildings,” he said.
Elaborating on projects in Alor Gajah district, Ahmad said JKR is currently constructing additional classrooms for the 2027 Year One school session under Program Cakna Madani involving 14 schools at a total cost of RM12.05 million.
The department is also building a new covered multipurpose hall and a covered multipurpose court at two schools, with the projects valued at RM1.83 million.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said JKR Alor Gajah District is also implementing five Federal building projects worth RM22.6 million, involving the reconstruction of dilapidated buildings at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Tengah and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Linggi, the construction of a replacement canteen building at Sekolah Ramuan Cina Besar, the construction of the Lesung Batu Mosque, and the upgrading of training facilities for the Hospitality Department at the Alor Gajah National Youth Skills Institute (IKTBN).
“A further RM5.1 million has been allocated for the maintenance of Federal buildings involving client agencies under the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and the Ministry of Health,” he said.
