Sultan Ibrahim witnesses Su-57E fighter jet demonstration by ‘Hero of Russia’ pilot in Moscow

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, yesterday graced an aerial demonstration of the fifth-generation multi-role fighter jet, the Sukhoi Su-57E, piloted by renowned Russian test pilot and “Hero of Russia” recipient, Sergei Bogdan.

The nearly seven-minute flight demonstration at Zhukovsky International Airport in Moscow showcased the modern military technological capabilities of the Russian Federation, including the advanced radar systems and the multi-role operational capacity of the fighter jet.

According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page today, His Majesty was also given a briefing on the fighter jet and took the time to inspect the interior of the Su-57E once it landed following the aerial display.

Bogdan, 64, has been the chief test pilot for the Sukhoi aircraft manufacturing company since 2000 and is known as a key figure in Russia’s fifth-generation combat aircraft development programme.

Earlier, His Majesty’s arrival was received by the Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Mikhail Petukhov.

Accompanying His Majesty were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and the Malaysian Ambassador to Russia, Datuk Cheong Loon Lai.

Sultan Ibrahim arrived in Moscow last Wednesday at the special invitation of the Russian Government as a guest of honour in conjunction with tomorrow’s Victory Day Anniversary celebrations.
