Police await autopsy to verify family’s claim of 200 stab wounds
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Police are still unable to confirm the exact number of stab wounds sustained by 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, who was killed in a school stabbing in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, as investigators are awaiting the autopsy report.
Yesterday, the victim’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, told the media that a pathologist had informed her family that her daughter had suffered over 200 stab wounds, primarily on the right side of her body from her neck to her thigh.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat told Chinese language newspaper Sin Chew Daily that police could only confirm that there were multiple stab wounds for now.
“As of today, the police have not received the autopsy report from the hospital,” he was quoted as saying.
Shamsudin also reportedly said that a mental health assessment for the 14-year-old suspect from the same school would only be conducted after he is charged and upon a court directive.
On the morning of Oct 14, the suspect allegedly stabbed Yap to death in the girls’ toilet of a secondary school in Bandar Utama.
He has been remanded for one week to assist in the murder investigation.
Yap’s wake service is currently being held at the Nirvana Center in Kuala Lumpur and will continue until this Sunday night.
The funeral cortège will depart for the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam for cremation on Monday morning.
