Zahid announces renaming of Kepala Batas MRSM to honour late Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
KEPALA BATAS, May 12 – Kepala Batas Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) has today been renamed MRSM Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in honour of the late former prime minister.
When making the announcement along with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuku, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Abdullah has left a massive legacy in the constituency.
“Renaming this MRSM after him is merely a small token of appreciation for his contributions,” he was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia, referring to Abdullah.
The report said the motion for the renaming was presented to Asyraf Wajdi last month.
Among those present at today’s event were M Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid, Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Kepala Batas MP Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad, and Abdullah’s son, Tan Sri Kamaluddin Abdullah.
Abdullah, who served as Malaysia’s fifth prime minister from 2003 to 2009, passed away on April 14 at the age of 85.
The Kepala Batas MRSM opened on March 1, 2007, with its first cohort of 359 students admitted on April 16 the same year.
The school was officially launched by Abdullah himself on March 29, 2009.
