Dr M: Three more years at most and I’m out

NEW YORK: I will throw in the towel as prime minister before the next general election, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I promise that I would step down before the next general election and give way to another person.

“So, I may have at the most three years perhaps,” he said at a dialogue held at the Council on Foreign Relations yesterday.

He is in New York for the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In the next three years, Mahathir said he needs to accomplish a few things, adding that work now was getting tougher, so much so that he has to work 18-hours a day.

“This is because I don’t have much time,” he said.
