Investigation into UPNM cadet abuse case to conclude by Friday, says Defence Minister
SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed today that the investigation board will finalise its findings by Friday regarding the recent UPNM cadet abuse case.
He stated that the report has already been submitted to the Attorney-General (AG) for review.
“The police have sent the report to the Attorney General, as indicated previously. As for our investigation board, we will make the final decision by Friday,” he told reporters after officiating the United Nations beret presentation ceremony, the Malaysian flag handover, and the departure of the first Malbatt 850-12 group for United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Khaled added that the decision-making committee includes officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), who will provide recommendations based on guidelines related to discipline.
The incident occurred on October 22, when a senior cadet allegedly pressed a heated iron against a junior cadet’s chest at the UPNM hostel in Sungai Besi.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was previously reported saying that the 20-year-old victim was instructed by a 22-year-old senior cadet to iron his clothes. However, the senior cadet then took the iron and pressed it against the victim’s chest.
Razarudin stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or methods.
