Robert Downey Jr to return as Iron Man in Black Widow film

KUALA LUMPUR: American actor Robert Downey Jr is set to don his metal suit one more time and reprise the role of Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in the new Black Widow film.

Downey was last seen in Avengers: Endgame, in which both Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow died trying to stop Thanos from destroying the universe.

Sky News reported yesterday that Marvel fans will have one last chance to say goodbye to their beloved superhero, as the Black Widow film is a prequel, set before the events of Endgame.

It is unclear how big Downey’s role will be in the film.

Downey took best actor at last week’s Saturn Awards, which celebrate science-fiction, fantasy and horror TV shows and films.

Endgame took home six wins from 14 nominations.

Other movies from the Marvel franchise were also victorious, with actor Zendaya winning best actress for her portrayal of MJ in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Black Widow will also star horror hit Midsommar’s Florence Pugh as Yelena and The Favourite’s Rachel Weisz as Melina – who indicated there would be more than one of the famous assassins.

“There are quite a number,” Weisz said in an interview with entertainment site IGN.

“I’m a Black Widow with Scarlett and Florence. There’s quite a lot of other characters you meet who are also Black Widows.”

Cate Shortland, who directed Nazi drama Lore, is due to direct the film, which will hit cinemas in May next year.
