Umno-PAS joint charter, MOU to be signed next month
PUCHONG: Umno secretary general Tan Sri Annuar Musa announced that Umno and PAS has finalised a joint charter and a memorandum of understanding for closer ties. He said this via his Twitter account.
In addition to that, he and his counterpart in PAS, Datuk Takiyuddin Hasan would be jointly heading a secretariat to implement a road map for both parties’ cooperation.
He added that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS’ Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang would be inking the documents soon.
The details however was not revealed.
A report in PAS’ organ, Harakah Daily stated that the joint charter would be unveiled next month.
Both the parties are currently having closer ties on the basis of unity of the ummah.
In a related development, PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that the unity of the ummah would be expanded to include non Muslims as well. Both the parties are focused on uniting the Muslims for now.
Some non Muslims asked me whether unity of the ummah involves only PAS and Umno. I said no, we started with the core parties first. Once the core Malay parties are done, then cooperation with others will be easier,” he said while delivering his lecture in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Umno, PAS along with MCA and MIC sits in the opposition bench in Dewan Rakyat. While there are efforts to cooperate from PAS to cooperate with MIC, such efforts have not been undertaken with GPS, which is made up of Sarawak based parties formerly in BN.
