KUALA LUMPUR: “I am not as excited as before. The thrill of getting hitched is half-gone,” said would-be bridegroom who only wants to be known as Aizuddin.

Aizuddin, 29, and his bride are among couples whose wedding plans were forced to be put on hold following the government’s decision to impose the Movement Control Order (MCO) from March 18 to 31 in efforts to contain COVID-19.

Though he could not help feeling disappointed as all the necessary preparations have been made, the move would not dampen his spirits as he is aware the directive is for the good and safety of Malaysians.

According to him two receptions which have been scheduled for tomorrow (March 21) and March 29 would be postponed to later dates.

“However the proper formalities required for the solemnisation ceremony will go on as planned today,” he said.

“The solemnisation continues as scheduled but with only closed family members as guests. We also provide hand sanitisers at the event,” he told Bernama after the event here today.

Azmir Nor, 28, whose Majlis Bertandang scheduled for tomorrow (March 21), said although his preparation was almost 100 per cent completed, he had to postpone the event to after the Aidilfitri celebration.

The private sector worker said although he was not required to pay for the postponement fee for the hall, he still had to incur losses involving certain matters such as the door gifts and homestays for the bride’s side.

“…a bit sad but I have to admit that it (the MCO) is a good step by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19,” he said.

Meanwhile, assistant manager of Wedding Galore Sdn Bhd, Nor Zuliana Mohd Latif, 34, said the wedding planner company had received postponement requests for all wedding receptions that are scheduled to be held during the MCO period.

“We understand that no large-scale event is allowed during this period.

“We are also relieved that the affected customers did not ask for a refund due to the postponement and they will set new dates for their events,” she said.
