PUCHONG: A woman claiming to be former MIC president Tun S Samy Vellu’s long-time companion has filed an interim order from the High Court.

In the order, E Meeriam Rosaline wants the court to grant her unrestricted access to Samy Vellu and be paid RM25,000 monthly allowance pending the outcome of her main legal suit.

She claimed that Samy Vellu had paid her maintenance and other benefits over the years but all that was stopped in 2017 by his son, Datuk Seri S Vell Paari.

The interim application will be heard before the High Court judge, Hashim Hamzah in Ipoh today.

It was speculated that Meeriam has slapped a RM20 million lawsuit against Samy Vellu’s family.

Meeriam, who lives in Ipoh, is represented by lawyers RSN Rayer and Ramesh Sivakumar.

In her affidavit, Meeriam said that she had entered into a quasi-spousal union with the former Works Minister in 1981.

She had also submitted documentary evidence to the court to support her claims.

On Mon, Vell Paari mentioned that he had filed an originating summons at the High Court against his father and urged the court to check the latter’s mental condition and whether Samy Vellu was still capable of managing his own affairs.

He had instructed his solicitors to file the application on Dec 2 so that an inquiry could be held into his father’s medical condition.

“The first is an action filed against my father and me by one Meeriam Rosaline Edward Paul.

“Secondly, my father had been diagnosed in 2017 as suffering from dementia due to Alzheimer,” he was reported saying.

Vell Paari said the definition of “mental disorder” under the Mental Health Act 2001 covers Samy Vellu’s condition.
