KUALA LUMPUR: There were no reports of any Malaysians affected by the earthquake in the region of Van Province in the Republic of Turkey and West Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, yesterday, according to Wisma Putra’s statement.
The Foreign Ministry said it is monitoring developments following an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale striking a region in both provinces.
According to the statement, the earthquake had claimed nine lives and caused injuries to more than 40 people in both provinces.
“Wisma Putra extends its sympathies and condolences to the government and the peoples of the Turkey, Iran, in particular to those who have been affected by the earthquake.
“Malaysia stands in solidarity with Turkey and Iranian people during this difficult time,” it said in the statement, yesterday.
Wisma Putra said Malaysians requiring consular assistance are advised to contact the embassies of Malaysia in Ankara and Tehran via email at mwankara@kln.gov.my (Ankara) and mwtehran@kln.gov.my.
