Wee dismisses claims of MCA-PN collaboration in Johor polls as ‘made-up stories’

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has dismissed allegations that his party is working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Johor state election, describing the claims as baseless attempts to tarnish Barisan Nasional’s (BN) image, according to Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

FMT reported that Wee said the accusations were illogical, as there was no evidence from any constituency contest to suggest political cooperation between the parties.

“If they assume that one party is not contesting a seat because it is collaborating with another party, can I assume from PN’s absence in certain seats that it is collaborating with other parties as well?

“All of this makes no sense. They are trying to damage the image of other parties with made-up stories. The people are not stupid,” he was quoted as saying after a campaign event in Paloh.

Wee said MCA would instead focus on highlighting the Johor government’s track record under caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi rather than responding to what he described as politically motivated allegations.

According to FMT, Johor DAP had accused BN and PN of cooperating after PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man urged PAS members and supporters to vote for Umno or BN candidates in constituencies where PN is not contesting.

Wee also rejected claims that a landslide BN victory in the Johor polls would pave the way for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s release.

He said the pardon process is governed by the law and the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and is unrelated to the outcome of any state election.

The Johor state election will be held on July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7. BN and Pakatan Harapan are contesting all 56 state seats, while PN is fielding candidates in 33 constituencies.
