MELAKA: Water rationing in Melaka which entered the third phase on Feb 24 will be expanded in Zone 2 which will cover an additional 20% of consumers in the Alor Gajah district from Tuesday.

Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) in a statement here yesterday said this was necessary due to prolonged dry weather and absence of rainfalll over catchment areas.

The expansion covers domestic and industrial users with water supply being made available on alternate days.

Consumers are advised to store sufficient water to meet their needs and can seek assistance by SMSing to 15800. Those living in hilly areas and occupants of high rises may also experience supply problems due to low pressure during peak usage periods.

Water rationing in Melaka initially started on Jan 29 affecting some 550,673 people or 62.8% of the state’s residents before being extended to cover hospitals, industrial areas and tourist spots.
