ALOR SETAR: Two brothers who were reported missing while riding a motorcycle, were found drowned in Sungai Tunjang, Jitra near Kubang Pasu yesterday.
Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said, the bodies of Awwal Firas Tasnim Anwar, 7 and his older brother, Aiman Darwisy Danish, 12, were found by members of the public assisting the police in the search for their bodies.
“At about 12.50pm, a passer-by alerted police of a child’s body floating in the river and we rushed to the scene. Upon inspection, the body was identified as Awwal Firas Tasnim.
“A few moments later, the villagers found Aiman Darwisy Danish’s body pinned under the sunken vehicle,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Mohd Ismail said upon checking Aiman Darwisy Danish’s body, police found blood stains on his nose but there were no signs of damage or crash to the motorcycle.
He said both brothers left the house riding a Honda Wave Dash at 5pm Sunday and the father lodged a police report after the boys failed to return home.
The bodies were sent to Jitra Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the victims’ uncle only known as Farid, 28, said both brothers left the house Sunday evening to their mother’s food stall nearby here at Kampung Rumput Minyak, Tunjang in Jitra.
“The boys’ mother went to the shop to cook for the family as there were perishable food at the stall,” he said, adding the fourth and fifth of six siblings in the family would be buried at the Kariah Pulau Kecil Muslim Cemetery after the post-mortem.
