KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (Touch ‘n Go) is expanding its Enhanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) network with 10 additional lanes by the end of the year to support the country’s transition towards a Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) tolling ecosystem.
Its Chief Operations Officer Liza Woon Yin Yin said the expansion, announced in conjunction with Touch ‘n Go’s 30th anniversary, aligns with the company’s broader vision to support the government’s barrier-free tolling initiative by providing robust and proven technology.
“We are ready to support with the technology, and we’ll continuously improve. We have a total of 10 more new lanes by the end of the year to support and prove the technology that we have to ease up the whole toll mobility,” she told Bernama when met at the MyASEAN Roads & Traffic Tech Expo (MyARTTE) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.
The new lanes will be deployed across five highways, comprising two lanes each at the Putrajaya Toll Plaza on the Maju Expressway (MEX), Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza on the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK), Bukit Raja Toll Plaza on the Grand Sepadu Highway, and Bukit Jelutong Toll Plaza on the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE).
Another two lanes, one each, will be installed at the Sungai Long and Ampang Toll Plazas on the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE).
Currently, two Enhanced RFID lanes are already operational, located at the Ampang-bound Dato Keramat toll plaza on AKLEH, and the Putrajaya-bound Putrajaya toll plaza on the MEX Highway.
Woon said the RFID lanes feature an enhanced technology that utilises two RFID antennas paired with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera.
“It’s an enhanced technology with two RFID antennas, and together with the ANPR camera in the middle to support the front and also the back as a secondary RFID to strengthen the security and also the accuracy,” she said.
Woon also assured motorists of a much smoother drive-through experience, noting that the upgraded lanes will offer an experience similar to the targeted MLFF system.
Earlier, she took the media on a guided tour of Touch ‘n Go’s Connected Mobility pavilion, themed “Future of Malaysia’s Mobility, Built on 30 Years of Trust”.
Woon shared insights into the company’s 30-year milestone and technological advancements, while briefing the media on the Single Lane Fast Flow (SLFF) e-RFID, MLFF Titan Flow technology and Gold Star virtual reality (VR) experience.
Meanwhile, Touch ‘n Go, in a statement, said the 10 new Enhanced RFID lanes will be clearly indicated by a gold star symbol on the lane signage to help motorists identify them easily.
Unlike conventional lanes, the Enhanced RFID lanes incorporate components of Touch ‘n Go’s homegrown Titan Flow technology stack, combining enhanced RFID capabilities with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies.
This multi-technology approach significantly improves vehicle detection and lane throughput, enabling highly reliable toll transactions even at higher vehicle speeds.
