KUALA LUMPUR: At 2.50pm Attorney General Tommy Thomas who leads the prosecution team in the trial of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak lambasted the team of defence lawyers for attempting to delay the trial.

“This cannot go on. The defence is insulting intelligence. They had months to do this,” he said.

Defence lawyers Harvinderjit Singh and Yusof Zainal Abiden submitted their points to stay the trial. Justice Nazlan Ghazali however set a different date for the defence to submit the application and called for the commencement [1]of the trial.

The prosecution team is made up of Thomas, Sulaiman Abdullah, V Sithambaram, Manoj Kurup, Ishak Mohd Yusoff, Donald Joseph Franklin, Suhaimi Ibrahim, Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi, Sulaiman Kho Kheng Fuei, Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, Mohd Ashraf Adrin Kamaril and Muhammad Izzat Fauzan.

The defence team is made up of Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, Yusof, Harvinder, Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, Farhan Read, Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed, Muhammad Farhan Shafee, Rahmat Hazlan, Tiara Katrina Fuad, Nur Syahirah Hanapiah and Zahria Elena Redza.

Najib is facing trial for a total of seven [2]charges today – one power abuse, three money laundering and three criminal breach of trust.

Later on, Thomas vowed to prove the prosecution team’s case beyond reasonable doubt based on direct and circumstantial evidence to show that Najib was guilty of every charge.

At 3.15pm Thomas told the court on how Najib engaged in money laundering RM27 million from his Ambank account in Dec 2014 into several companies.

He also told the court of a Chanel shopping spree in Honolulu, house renovations, and funding for various BN component parties.

At 4.40pm Registrar of Companies deputy registrar Muhamad Akmaludin Abdullah, 35, who is the first witness revealed that the money from SRC International passed through two companies before landing in Najib’s account. The companies are Gandingan Mentari and Ihsan Perdana.

Former AG Mohamed Apandi Ali’s wife Faridah Begum is one of the directors of Gandingan Mentari.

The trial ended at 5.36pm and the judge fixed April 15 to May 10 for the trial to continue. The early was due to the case receiving some degree of priority due to overwhelming public interest in the case
