KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said he was unsure of who to support for the state polls, despite most of his friends being part of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Star reported the former Umno Youth chief as saying that he planned to support some of his friends, who would be campaigning on behalf of PN in the build-up to the August 12 state elections.
“I am unsure if I’ll be given a chance to speak at any election rallies, but if there are any friends of mine contesting, I’ll certainly be paying them a visit.
“It just so happens that most of them now happen to be in PN,” he said after a dialogue session with students at UCSI University here yesterday.
The former Rembau MP also said that he would study the manifestos of all the political coalitions contesting in the polls before deciding.
“My decision remains to be seen as we don’t have a full idea yet of the manifestos of either side,” he said as reported by the English national daily.
On June 19, Khairy was reported to have given his backing to PN for the upcoming state elections after a meeting with the coalition’s chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In January, Khairy and several senior leaders were sacked from Umno for violating party rules, such as contesting as independent candidates and helping Opposition candidates during the general election (GE15) that previous November.
