SINGAPORE, Sept 20 — Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is set to enhance its focus on drones, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI), having developed its proprietary generative AI tool.

The tech is named Gaia, short for Generative AI assistant.

It aims to bolster the nation’s defence capabilities by leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

DSTA said in a statement: “Built with flexibility and scalability in mind, Gaia allows us to swop between different LLMs (large language models) so that we can use the model that best suits each use case.”

The move comes as part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to integrate advanced tech into its defence strategy, a process that has seen the incorporation of various sophisticated tools and systems in recent years.

This push mirrors global military trends, where technology plays an increasingly vital role in operational efficiency and strategic advantage.

DSTA’s foray into generative AI reflects a broader commitment to digital innovation within Singapore’s defence sector, aiming for enhanced operational processes and decision-making capabilities.

With this development, Singapore joins a select group of nations that are pioneering the military application of generative AI technologies.
