KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has named Datuk Azmir Merican Azmi Merican as its group managing director effective April 22 this year.
Chairman Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz said Azmir would bring in a wealth of experience from his background in financial advisory and as a senior business leader.
“Azmir’s appointment reinforced the board’s commitment in ensuring Sime Darby Property’s leadership in the industry and towards creating sustainable, long term value for its stakeholders,” she said in a statement today.
She said Datuk Wan Hashimi Albakri would continue in his current role as acting group chief executive officer until Azmir Merican’s effective appointment date and subsequently resume the role of the chief operating officer, township development.
Azmir started his career as an investment analyst and later as a manager in the financial and corporate advisory arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
He is currently the managing director and chief executive officer of UEM Edgenta Bhd, having led the company’s ongoing transformation into a technology-based company servicing the healthcare, property and infrastructure sectors.
Previously, he was also the group chief executive and managing director of AWC Bhd.
