PUCHONG: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari urged the police to take action against the political leader accused of masterminding the viral sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Speaking to reporters in Shah Alam, Amirudin said that the police must act against the individual, regardless of his or her status and position.
“However, the accused must also be given the chance to defend himself if he believes he has done nothing wrong,” he was quoted saying to Sinar Harian.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador alleged that a leader of a political party is behind the dissemination of the viral sex video [1]aimed at bringing down Azmin.
He also said that the leader had spent hundreds of thousands of ringgit to tarnish the minister’s standing among the people.
However, Hamid did not name the political leader.
He added that Cybersecurity Malaysia found the sex video to be authentic but they could not identify the characters featured in the video.
Previously, eight people have been remanded in connection with the case, including PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s political aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak and former Santubong PKR Youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz.
Haziq had confessed to being the person in the video featuring two men engaging in sexual acts. He claimed that the other person was Azmin.
Azmin, however, dismissed Haziq’s accusation and called it a sinister plot to end his career.
On related matter, Amirudin said he welcomed Hamid’s statement that the facial recognition process had failed to link Azmin to the video.
“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), everything has been revealed. Let us not continue this. We should move on,” he said.
