Sex video: No need for Azmin to go on leave, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: There is no need for Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to go on leave pending police probe on the authenticity of the sex video implicating him, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

“Why? The police can continue with the investigation. He is not going to obstruct the police,” said Mahathir at the Prime Minister Office.

On calls by Pakatan Harapan for Barisan Nasional leaders to go on leave or resign when they were investigated in the past, Mahathir said if the probe was on some crime, then the individual must take leave.

“But this is a political attack. It is intended to embarrass Azmin and force him to take leave. I don’t like this kind of politics,” he said.

After the sex video clip went viral two weeks ago, Santubong PKR youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz confessed that he was the man in the video.

He also alleged that the person he was having sex with in the video was Azmin. However, the minister had denied the accusation and lodged a police report on the matter.

Otai Reformasi, an NGO aligned to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had called upon Azmin to go on leave pending police investigation. [1]

Their calls were also backed by Anwar’s political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak[2].

However, Anwar himself had defended Azmin, saying the latter was a victim of slander and gutter politics.
