KOTA BHARU, Aug 13 — For just a fee of RM10, a labourer allegedly moonlit as a transporter to ferry foreigners who entered Malaysia via un gazetted routes along Sungai Golok to a bus station.
The local man was arrested alongside an Indonesian man during Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan by the Sector A Strike Force, Company A of the 7th Battalion (General Operations Force), near Gate 1 of the Rantau Panjang Duty-Free Complex, Pasir Mas at approximately 10pm on Tuesday.
PGA Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the arrest was made after personnel conducting patrols and monitoring spotted a red Demak 135 LC motorcycle ridden by two men acting suspiciously as they emerged from an illegal landing point area.
“Preliminary interrogation revealed that the local man lives around Rantau Panjang and works as a labourer, besides doing part-time work as a transporter charging a fee of RM10 to ferry customers, usually foreigners, who entered via the river to the bus station.
“An inspection of the Indonesian man, meanwhile, found that he did not possess an entry stamp into Malaysia and admitted to entering via Sungai Golok using an un gazetted route around Pengkalan Haram Azizah,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The Indonesian man was reported to have arrived at Hat Yai Airport, Thailand from Indonesia on August 10 before taking a bus to the Sungai Golok area to enter Malaysia, planning to continue his journey to Kuala Lumpur to meet a friend.
During the operation, the PGA also seized a Demak motorcycle registered under KEM 2321 valued at approximately RM4,000, two mobile phones, and a passport, with the total value of seizures estimated at RM6,000.
Ahmad Radzi said both men were handed over to the District Criminal Investigation Division of the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters for investigation under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, while initial urine screenings showed both were negative.
