KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Several areas across Malaysia remain at risk of hazy conditions and reduced visibility from August 27 to 31, according to weather forecast models monitored by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia director-general Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the conditions were due to the influence of south-westerly winds and a persistently high number of hotspots in southern Sumatra and western Kalimantan.
“The MyCMAQ (Malaysia Community Multi-scale Air Quality Model) haze concentration forecast shows Sarawak could be the worst-affected area, with most districts expected to experience hazy weather at the Unhealthy level.
“Several districts could also reach the Very Unhealthy level on August 30 and 31,” he said in a statement today.
He said hazy conditions were expected in Sabah from Saturday, while high haze concentrations could affect Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until August 31.
