PUCHONG: Putrajaya rubbished reports from Indian media which claimed that controversial Indian Muslim televangelist Dr Zakir Naik received a plot of land here to restart his banned channel, Peace TV.
The federal government also denied claims that Naik would be given a channel slot on RTM.
“We would like to clarify that these allegations are baseless,” it said.
India’s Republic TV has claimed that Malaysia decided to “reward” Naik to operate his Peace TV operations.
Last week, India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) charged Naik in absentia for money laundering.
The agency said Naik had made “inflammatory speeches and lectures” which incited a number of Muslim youths in India to commit terrorist acts.
Naik has strongly denied the accusations against him, and has evaded Indian authorities who have been seeking to deport him from Malaysia, where he has been granted a permanent resident status.
